The tangerine of this particular tea is from Xin Hui, which is famous for growing tangerine with high contain aromatic oil in the peel. See Chenpi. Each premium Tangerine tea is around 4 -5 cm in diameter and weight approx. 13-15 gram. The size is suggesting that the tangerine is made from green young fruit which has more pungent and refreshing citrus flavor then mature one. Moreover it is stuffs with premium black pu-erh from Yunnan to make it to a perfect marrige.

Introduction

Traditionally, pu-erh was grown on six mountains in China. The tea growers on these mountains wanted to find a unique way to sell his product, one of the producers hollowed out a tangerine and only kept the peel and packed it with pu-erh tea leaves. After it dried then the pu-erh is place in a cool place to age. The whole process not just make the tea more smooth but also infuses the citrus flavour in the tea leaves. 

Taste and appearance

The dried and aged tea leaves are black in color and are tightly compressed into the tangerine peel. The peel is further dried after being filled which infuses the smell and flavour of the peel in the tea leaves. The tea has a unique sweet citrusy taste and leaves a slighly bitter aftertaste.

Brewing method

The most recommended brewing method is the Gaiwan method. Bring the water to a temperature of 95-100 degree Celsius. Add 1 gram of tea leaves for every 15 ml of water that is 6-7 grams per 100 ml of water. Break some of the tangerine peel pieces too and add it with the tea leaves. The peel provides extra flavour to the tea. Rinse the tea with the boiled water 2 times to get rid of the dirt. Steep it for a minute after rinsing and enjoy your tea. You can use a strainer to make sure you don’t get the dregs in your cup or glass.

Chenpi Pu-erh Tea Review


I have to say that is my first experience with Pu-erh so I can't really do some comparisons neither give a vote, but I can definitely say what I felt.
